So. You don’t have a defined social media strategy? In 2019? I’m not trying to make you feel bad I’m just going to bring you up to date with some information gathered by some top social media management software companies, Sprout Social and Hootesuite.

You might think your ideal customer isn’t using the internet— they are.
You might think your ideal customer isn’t on Facebook— they are.
You might think your ideal customer isn’t on Instagram— (if your target market involves 13-64 year olds) they are.

Below are some statistics I want you to keep in mind moving your business forward into 2019 and beyond!

Social Media Statistics

General Statistics:

  • Almost 90% of businesses report their social marketing efforts have increased exposure for their business, and 75% say they've increased traffic

  • On Average, American adults use 3 social media platforms

Facebook Statistics:

  • 68% of Americans use Facebook

  • 78% of American consumers have discovered retail products to buy on Facebook

  • The number of American Facebook users aged 65+ has doubled to 41%

  • 66% of monthly Facebook users use it daily

  • Americans spend 58 minutes per day on Facebook

  • 88% of Facebook users are accessing via mobile device

  • 200 million people are members of meaningful Facebook groups (a strategy I love to help my clients incorporate)

Instagram Statistics:

  • 59% of Instagram users are aged between 18 and 29, 33% 30-49, 23% 50-64, 8% 65+

  • 60% of Instagrammers say that they learned about a product or service on the platform

  • The average engagement per post on Instagram has grown by 416% compared to two years ago

  • 68% of Instagrammers engage with brands regularly

  • 75% of Instagrammers take some action after being inspired by a post - like visiting a website, searching, shopping or telling a friend

  • Engagement with brands on Instagram is 10 times higher than Facebook, 54 times higher than Pinterest, and 84 times higher than Twitter.

The world is changing at a rapid rate. Where we are putting our attention is changing. During TV commercials where are we looking? Our phones. While we’re in line at the store, before we might browse through magazines, but now— on our phones. Sitting at a red light, on your phone. What are we doing on our phones? Looking at likely either: Google, YouTube, Facebook or Instagram.
